Good Saturday morning.

We have a few items this morning from college action yesterday.

Central Washington 7, Academy of Art 2: Contributions from Valley athletes paced the Wildcats’ road win in San Francisco over host AoA. North Bend’s Ryan Atkinson, a 2012 Mount Si HS grad, went 2-4, with two runs scored, and Duvall’s Travis Cook, a 2011 Cedarcrest HS grad, pitched two innings, allowing one run on one hit, walking three and striking out two, receiving a no-decision for his efforts. Both players are seniors this spring for CWU.

Gonzaga 18, Texas Southern 3: GU brought out the bats last night in San Antonio to open their weekend trip to Texas; senior Dustin Breshears, from North Bend and a 2011 Mount Si HS alum, went 2-2 with a walk and three runs scored; he also recorded three assists on defense playing shortstop for the Bulldogs, who continue play in their weekend set today with two games.

Vanderbilt 9, Illinois-Chicago 0: The SEC’s Commodores took care of business at home in Nashville, beating the visiting Flames in a non-conference contest. Senior pitcher Trevor Lane pitched an inning for UIC, allowing a run on two hits, striking out two and receiving a no-decision. Lane is from North Bend and a 2012 Mount Si HS grad.

Northwest Nazarene 7, Eastern Oregon 1 (game one, doubleheader): NNU, from Nampa, ID, opened a weekend series with their I-84 rivals from nearby LaGrande, OR, with a win; junior Taylor Turner, from Duvall and a 2013 Cedarcrest HS grad, was 0-3 but recorded a putout and assist on defense playing left field for EOU in the game.

Eastern Oregon 7, Northwest Nazarene 5 (game two, doubleheader): Eastern turned the tables on NNU in the nightcap, earning the opening day doubleheader split. Turner pitched in, going 2-3 with two runs scored, and once again recording a putout and assist each on defense working left field. The weekend series wraps up today with another doubleheader; you can catch both of those games beginning at 11am this morning free on the web through the GNAC Digital link at right in our news links.

Indoor Track and Field
Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, Winston-Salem, NC: The women’s 3000m race at the A-Sun meet last night in North Carolina saw a Valleyite fare well; Fall City junior Sally Larson, a Cedar Park Christian School (Bothell) alum competing for Nashville’s Lipscomb University in the meet, finished sixth in this race, clocking just over 10 minutes.
