Mount Si High’s Gross leads way on the ice at nationals

A Mount Si High School junior made his mark on the ice today, leading his team to a blowout victory in the opening game at their national tournament.

Forward Cam Gross scored four goals, leading his Sno-King Seattle Junior Thunderbirds Midget 17U A1 team to a 7-1 shellacking of the Knoxville Ice Bears from Tennessee in a game that has just gone final at the USA Hockey Tier II 18U national tournament outside of Buffalo, NY.

Goalie Owen Roche, also a junior at Mount Si, made 14 saves on 15 shots attempted against him for a .933 save percentage.

S-K scored four goals in the second period – two from Gross – then added three more in the third – with another two from the local teen – to seal things up.

We featured this team and these two young men here about two weeks ago; here’s that story. We should also mention that on the team’s coaching staff is Snoqualmie resident Robbie Christensen, himself a former player.

Tomorrow will be a special treat for Gross, as the SnoKing team is scheduled to meet the Carolina Lightning from the Raleigh-Durham area in North Carolina, where Gross is originally from, in the tournament. We’ll keep you posted on how they do. SnoKing will be back there through next week. We wish them luck.
