Athletes of the Week for 4-13

Time for our Athletes of the Week this week. Off to the baseball diamond for these boys’ selections.

CEDARCREST – The Red Wolves swept two from King’s last Wednesday and Friday to move to 5-3 in conference, 6-5 overall, and key to those efforts was senior Ben Lemery, who had the lone RBI in the Red Wolves’ 1-0 win on Wednesday and went 1-3 on Friday to aid CHS’s 3-2 home win over the Knights. Lemery has an 11-game hitting streak to start the season, and that’s helped him become the top hitter this spring with Cedarcrest, hitting .382 on the season. Lemery and his Red Wolves teammates start a very important week of games this week today – all three games (today, Wednesday and Friday) are against Granite Falls, who, at 6-2 in Cascade play, is one game ahead of the Red Wolves for second place among 2A teams. CHS will need to win at least two games to take control of that second-place spot.

MOUNT SI – The past couple of weeks have been quite busy for junior first baseman Owen Roche. Roche, as we have been telling you here, did a stellar job goalkeeping for his junior boys’ ice hockey team at their recent national tournament in Buffalo, guiding them to the tournament’s quarterfinals, then last Friday, came back to the Wildcat baseball team and did not show any rust from missing the action, hitting a key double that scored two runs for Mount Si in a very important 4-2 home win in Snoqualmie over Woodinville that put the Wildcats into a first-place tie in Kingco 4A at 9-2 in league play with both the Falcons and Skyline, who Mount Si meets today. Roche will remain quite busy, too – he is scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh later this week to compete in another big youth ice hockey tournament.
