Local players compete in opening day of club volleyball tournament, with success…..

Good Sunday morning. We’ll wrap up the diamond cuts later, but we have some volleyball to get you started with this morning.

It was a strong day yesterday for four area girls’ volleyball squads with Valley athletes at the opening day of action in the Emerald City Classic tournament in Seattle, an event that wraps up the 2016 club volleyball season.

Three Bellevue-based teams – the Sudden Impact 17’s Storm and 15’s Lightning, along with the Northwest Juniors 15’s Black – went 3-0 on their first day of matches, all competing against a host of teams from around the Northwest and Canada. The squads feature Mount Si High School players Courteney Carr, Katie McCreadie (SI Storm), Cameron Kendall (NWJ) and Sara Mitchell (SI Lightning) and Cedarcrest High School athlete Danielle Winston (NWJ). A fourth Bellevue-area team, the High Velocity 16’s, with CHS’ Kam Leslie, went 2-1 on opening day. The teams are among several Eastside-based squads with local players competing in the event this weekend.

Action in the event continues today, with everything wrapping up tomorrow.
