Fall City’s Gunnar Buhner delivered a solid game, homering, walking twice, scoring three runs and driving in another, all helping Lewis-Clark State College’s baseball team defeat Tennessee Wesleyan 11-7 last night at the NAIA’s World Series in Lewiston, ID, a tournament being hosted this week by LCSC.

Buhner, a 2013 Mount Si HS grad and LCSC junior, recorded a putout and five assists defensively for the Warriors as they moved to 51-7 on the season and guaranteed a top-three finish.

LCSC plays again today against Bellevue of Nebraska with a win moving them into the championship game later this week.

Chaffey Baseball 18U 13, Honda Baseball 4: At Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, the Edmonds-based Chaffey rolled to a big win over the Bellevue-based Honda team. MSHS senior Jimmy Boyce was 0-1 with a walk, sacrifice fly, run scored and RBI for Chaffey in the contest.

Boys of Summer 18U Blue 6, Baden 0: Mount Si’s Gavin Gorrell tripled, walked, scored twice and drove in two runs for Bellevue-based Boys as they blanked the Seattle-based Baden at Courter Field on the Bellevue College campus. Fellow Wildcat Mason Marenco was 0-4 for BoS in the contest.

Northwest Bandits 6, Washington A’s 16U 0: At Interlake High School in Bellevue, the Sammamish-based A’s were shut out by the Kirkland-based Bandits. Mount Si’s Ethan “Moose” Read was 1-3 for the A’s in the contest.

Seattle Stars 6, Boys of Summer 18U Blue 0: BoS was blanked by the Edmonds-based Stars also at Courter Field, despite a pair of hits each from both Gorrell and Marenco; Gorrell also walked in the contest.

Mount Si High School fall sports news
Registration starts today for returning Mount Si High School students interested in competing in any fall sports, such as football, volleyball, girls’ soccer or cross country. For more information, go to the MSHS home page at right in our news links.

For those returning student athletes who are interested in competing for the MSHS boys’ golf team this fall, the program has set up a summer schedule of practices and tournaments to help you prepare for the upcoming golf season.

The practices will be primarily on Thursdays and Saturdays from June 4-July 28, all at Mount Si Golf Course, and the tournaments will be Thursdays from June 30-August 11 at various local courses. More information on both of these items, including fees, is available at the MSHS’ boys’ golf webpage also at right in our news links.

Track & Field: Valleyites miss out on NCAA nationals
Washington State University redshirt sophomore Brad Stevens missed out on qualifying for the NCAA track and field national championships in the men’s javelin event after missing the cut at the regionals this past weekend.

Stevens, a Mount Si High School grad from Fall City, took 20th overall with a toss of a little over 213 ½ feet at the NCAA regionals in Lawrence, KS. Only the top 12 placers advanced to the national championship meet.

A second Valley athlete also competed in the regionals this past weekend, also missing a chance to advance to nationals. Fall City’s Sally Larson, a junior at Nashville’s Lipscomb University, ran the women’s 10,000m at the regionals in Jacksonville and finished 41st, clocking 36 minutes, 34.02 seconds.
