News and notes……

Football and soccer on deck, but first, some other action of note from yesterday and last night.

Volleyball
Central Washington def. St. Martin’s 25-16, 25-20, 25-15: The visiting Wildcats easily handled the Saints in a sweep down in Lacey last night. In limited action, sophomore Liz Larson, from Snoqualmie, had two service aces and a dig for St. Martin’s, who dropped to 6-12 overall, 2-12 in GNAC play with the loss.

Golf
Maralack closes fall out on better note: After her struggles Friday in the opening round of her final tournament of the fall, University of Hartford freshman women’s golfer Caitlin Maralack looked to close out her inaugural fall campaign on a strong note, and she did, carding an 87 to finish with a two-day score of 185, good for a 66th place finish, at the Seton Hall Pirate Invitational in New Jersey. Maralack, a 2016 Mount Si High School grad from Snoqualmie, carded a 98 Friday.

Baseball
Marenco contributes to two more wins for select baseball team: Mount Si High School senior Mason Marenco is getting it done for his select baseball squad at their weekend tournaments. Off a strong effort in two games Friday, Marenco delivered in two more games last night, and his team won both.

Marenco was 1-2 with a walk and run scored for the Puyallup-based Northwest Elite 18U Senior Scout Team as they blanked Rocky Mountain Baseball from Utah 6-0 last night, and he was 2-4 with a triple for Elite in a 7-5 win over TCBA from Minnesota. Both games were at a tournament in Las Vegas.

Fellow Wildcat Gavin Gorrell also plays for Elite, but did not play in either of yesterday’s games.

Basketball
Taylor’s outside shooting aids Carroll to 2-0 start in men’s hoops: The Carroll College of Montana men’s basketball team closed their season-opening trip north of the border to Alberta, Canada, last night with a 93-67 blowout of the University of Lethbridge up in Lethbridge, AB. Senior Zach Taylor was 5-7 from the floor – all three-pointers – finishing with 15 points pacing the Saints’ efforts as they moved to 2-0 to start the season. Taylor, from Duvall and a 2013 Cedarcrest HS grad, collected two rebounds, three assists, six steals and two blocks as well for Carroll, as they next play Montana State-Billings on Wednesday in Billings, MT.

Northwest women win opener: The Eagles rolled past UC Merced 67-53 last night on neutral soil down in Portland to pick up their first contest of the season. Junior Kalee Fowler, from Duvall and a 2014 Cedarcrest HS alum, played limited minutes with no stats of note reported for the Eagles.
