On the college front…..

Cedarcrest hoops wrapup shortly, but first, a look at a couple of college sports items involving athletes from the Valley.

Track: MSHS grad competes at UW indoor meet
Valleyite Madeline Hutchison took on top competition from around the western United States last night in the women’s 5000 meter race at the University of Washington’s indoor meet being held this weekend in Seattle.

Hutchison, a junior from Snoqualmie and 2014 Mount Si High School grad, competed for Western Washington University in the race, and finished 24th in her heat, with a time of 18 minutes, 35.96 seconds. The time placed her well back in the overall 46-athlete field which was split into two separate heats. She competed against a mix of mostly Division I runners in the contest, from schools all over the western part of the country.

Action in that meet continues this weekend.

Wrestling: CHS grad’s return to college mat a success
In his first action on the mat in a couple of weeks, Duvall’s Carlos Toledano made it a successful return, as he won his match, but it proved to not be enough for his Minot State wrestling squad, as they fell at home.

The MSU senior, a 2013 Cedarcrest High School, routed Southwest Minnesota State opponent Cody Heitman in their 174 lb. match 11-1, and that match win kept things close, but Southwest Minnesota held off the host Beavers 22-16 in the dual Thursday night in Minot, ND.

Minot is home tomorrow for a date with Augustana.
