Athletes of the Week for 2-1

Good Monday morning. Athletes of the Week now, and then we’ll have another commentary as well. Yes, we’ve spent a lot of time in our soapbox lately, haven’t we? But this time, it’s about something different than the football controversy involving Cedarcrest High School’s rival Archbishop Murphy. This one could impact Mount Si High School much more.

To our AotW’s and girls for these this week.

CEDARCREST – Hoops of course, and we’re going to recognize senior Meredith Burke this week, for her recent success against Granite Falls. In the Red Wolves’ win over the Tigers January 17, Burke pocketed season highs in both points and rebounds, logging a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds helping CHS. She plays a very key position for the Red Wolves – post – and has provided tremendous contributions throughout the season for Cedarcrest, who looks to make a deep run into postseason. They wrap up the regular season tomorrow at Sultan.

MOUNT SI – Gymnastics, and Sarah Christopherson gets our nod on the strength of a third-place finish in the all-around last Thursday night helping the Wildcats post a Senior Night home win over Inglemoor. Christopherson scored 32.5 in that all-around competition, which is the combined scores of all four events in the meet – vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. She won the bars recording a 7.6 and was one of just two MSHS athletes – the other being previous AotW Samantha Holmes – to record a strong 9.0 or better in the floor, notching a 9.1 from event judges. As the postseason now begins, watch for Christopherson to make her mark as Mount Si looks to make it back to state.
