Previewing and picking this Friday night on the Valley high school hardwood, 1-27-12

We are back after a week off thanks to ice and snow to give you another round of Friday previews and picks for Valley high school basketball. We’ll start with Cedarcrest, as they meet Granite Falls.

Cedarcrest boys vs. Granite Falls, tonight, 7:00 p.m., Cedarcrest HS, Duvall – The last time these two teams met, it was a close one up north in Granite Falls, with the Tigers winning 75-72 back on January 9. Tonight, the Red Wolves look for some redemption, and a win which will put them firmly in control of the top overall 2A spot in the standings. You know about post Zach Taylor, of course, but watch Tyler Reeves tonight if you are a Red Wolves fan. He dropped 19 points, including 15 of those from beyond the three-point line, in CHS’ win Tuesday over South Whidbey. If Reeves has another big night tonight, that will be huge for the Red Wolves. Pick: Cedarcrest 70, Granite Falls 65

Cedarcrest girls @ Granite Falls, tonight, 7:00 p.m., Granite Falls HS – Cedarcrest won the previous meeting between these teams by 20 points January 9, and the Red Wolves have been on a roll since, most recently blowing out a South Whidbey team Tuesday which is actually holding its own in the middle of the pack within the conference. Susan Kenney continues to lead the Red Wolves attack, but this could be a potential trap game in advance of a huge game against Archbishop Murphy tomorrow. Focus will be key in this one for the Red Wolves. Pick: Cedarcrest 60, Granite Falls 50

Mount Si girls vs. Sammamish, tonight, 6:30 p.m., Mount Si HS, Snoqualmie – The last time Mount Si’s girls won a game was the game January 7 against Sammamish, so the Wildcats will look to get back in the win column tonight against a scrappy Totems squad, that while they are still the bottom-feeders in Kingco 3A, are showing signs of being a stronger team going forward. Mount Si was led Wednesday by Katy Lindor’s 10 points in their loss to Juanita, but the offense as a whole was ice cold, with a shooting percentage in the low 20% at best. That will need to pick up if Mount Si has a chance in this one. Pick: Mount Si 55, Sammamish 35

Mount Si boys vs. Sammamish, tonight, 8:00 p.m.*, Mount Si HS, Snoqualmie (*game will start 15-20 minutes after girls’ game concludes) – The Wildcat boys fell by five points in their most recent meeting January 7 to the Totems, and Sammamish comes in knowing they have a little something to prove. Mount Si also does, especially after their offensive struggles doomed them in a loss Tuesday at Juanita. Beau Shain scored 10 points to lead Mount Si in the loss Tuesday, but the Wildcats will need increased production from seniors such as Ryan Atkinson and Anthony McLaughlin in order to be successful against George Valle and the tough Sammamish team, which is well-coached and poised for a deep run into the postseason. Pick: Sammamish 75, Mount Si 60
