Mount Si wrestlers split on Mercer Island, 1-26

Mount Si’s wrestling team hit the mat for the first time since the winter storm break last night, and left with some mixed results in the two duals at Mercer Island High School.

Wildcats fall to Islanders
The Wildcats opened the evening with a close loss to Mercer Island, 34-27. Mount Si heavyweights dominated their matches, with Mitch Rorem (195 lbs.), Nate Whited (220) and Josh Mitchell (285) all winning their contests by pin over their Islander foes. Aaron Peterson (145), Tye Rodne (152) and Gunnar Harrison (113) also won their contests by decision. Peterson took his match 8-6 over MI’s Connor Gullstad in extra time; Harrison fought off a strong challenge from MI’s Taylan Yuasa and scored an 8-7 victory, and Rodne won his match comfortably 11-6 over Islander opponent Jack Vassau. The rest of the contests went MI’s way, with Wildcats AJ Brevick (160), Adam Taylor (132) and Tanner Stahl (126) falling by pin.

Mount Si rips Lake Washington
Mount Si closed out the night by taking out their frustrations from the loss to the Islanders by blasting Lake Washington. The Wildcats won all but two of the contests in a 69-12 blowout. Many of those wins were by forfeit, but in the contested action, Mitchell, Rorem, Justin Edens (138) and Ryley Absher (120) all won their matches by pin over their Kang opponents. Whited and Taylor were the only two Mount Si wrestlers who fell in their contests; both were pinned.

The Wildcats will close out the regular season tomorrow with a pair of day matches at Bellevue High School. Mount Si will meet Liberty at noon, then Sammamish at 1:30. Both matches are makeups of matches which were postponed earlier.

The box scores from last night are after the jump.
