Valleyite takes field in minor league baseball contest

Good Thursday morning. We’ll have another fall high school sports preview for you this morning, but we first have a note from baseball.

Mount Si High School grad Gunnar Buhner took the field yesterday once again for the Philadelphia Phillies rookie minor-league team in Florida. Buhner played third base late in the contest, with no official at-bats, as Philadelphia shut out a New York Yankees rookie club, 3-0, in a Gulf Coast League “rookie”-class contest in Clearwater, near Tampa.

Buhner, in his first pro season after graduating from Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho this spring, is hitting just .125 in limited action for the Phillies this summer. The Fall City product signed with Philadelphia as a free agent after he did not get picked in June’s Major League Baseball amateur draft.
