On the hardwood on this Thursday

Good Thursday morning.

A look at the hardwood this morning first takes us to the high school front, and it was a tough night on the road last night for the Mount Si ladies, as they could not recover from a slow start and fell to Newport.

16 points from Lauren Wilbourne proved to not be enough for the Wildcats as they lost 52-34 to the host Knights, dropping to 5-6 on the season and now having lost two straight games. Sam Smith, despite a 3-10 night from the floor, finished with 10 points pacing Mount Si. Smith’s struggles were indicative, outside of Wilbourne, of how the Wildcats performed offensively; Mount Si was limited to 25% shooting from the floor and only hit four three-pointers in the entire contest.

The Wildcats return home tomorrow looking to avenge their loss earlier this season to Woodinville, as they welcome in the league’s best team. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie.

College news:

Skagit ladies overcome halftime deficit with big third quarter, win divisional clash: A 29-15 third quarter outburst for Skagit Valley’s ladies propelled the Cardinals, who went into halftime trailing, to a 64-57 win last night over NWAC division rival Olympic up in Mount Vernon.

Freshman Mieke Van Ess had a hand in it, too; the 2017 Cedarcrest HS grad, from Duvall, had four points and three rebounds off the bench for SVC, who is now 6-9 on the season and has won three straight games. Skagit hosts Bellevue on Saturday night.
