Valley to be well represented at Mat Classic state wrestling meet

Valley high school wrestling fans will have plenty of athletes to cheer for at this coming weekend’s Mat Classic state wrestling tournament in Tacoma. A total of 10 wrestlers, five each from both Mount Si and Cedarcrest High Schools, earned berths yesterday. We’ll run down who made it first, and provide you full results for all of the local wrestlers who competed after the break, with those results coming from the TrackWrestling.com website.

Mount Si: The Wildcats finished sixth as a team at the 4A region 2 tournament at Tahoma High School in Maple Valley. Mount Si scored 74 ½ points with the host Bears winning the regional team title in dominant fashion. Earning berths to state from the Wildcats wereTryon Kaess (106 lbs.), Duncan Harrison (145), Spencer Marenco (152), who won his weight class, Conor Holt (160) and Kinsey Steskal (120, girls). Steskal took second at her girls’ regional up in Sedro Woolley.

Cedarcrest: The Red Wolves took fourth in the 2A region 1 tournament at Tumwater High School with 110 points; Centralia won the regional title. Earning berths to Tacoma were Austin Link (126), Matt Weinert (170), Caleb Lay (195), Fred Reid (160) and Garrett Nelson (285), with both Lay and Reid winning their weight classes.
