Other news……

Track & Field
Valley threesome competes in PLU meet, led by event winner Larson: Three Valley athletes competed for their college teams at the PLU Open meet yesterday in Tacoma, and one literally stole the show.

Junior Liz Larson, from Snoqualmie and a 2015 Mount Si HS grad, smoked the field – and we mean smoked – in the women’s hammer toss. Larson, competing for St. Martin’s University in Lacey, won the event going away, with a top toss of 167 feet, six inches, over 11 feet ahead of the runner-up finisher in the event. Also competing yesterday were fellow Mount Si grad Andrew Harris and Cedarcrest grad Madi Shinn, both for Central Washington.

Shinn, a freshman from Duvall, competed in a pair of women’s events, taking 12th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:20.22, and she teamed up on a Central 4×400 women’s relay crew that took sixth in that race with a time of 4:24.55. Harris, a sophomore from Snoqualmie, did the gauntlet of throwing events on the men’s side, taking sixth in the discus with a throw of 126 feet, and 12th in both the shot put (just over 38 feet) and hammer (122 feet, eight inches).

Valleyite on water for SPU women in local regatta: Seattle Pacific University’s second women’s varsity eight crew boat, with Valleyite Kali Barlow aboard, had a couple of solid showings yesterday in a four-way meet down at American Lake near Tacoma hosted by PLU. The Falcon boat took second in a head-to-head clash in their early morning race with Puget Sound and PLU, with a time of 7:41.8, and in their late morning run, fell to PLU in a head-to-head battle, clocking 7:49.7 and finishing seven seconds behind the Lutes. Barlow is a freshman from North Bend and 2017 MSHS alum.

Boys’ Soccer
Valleyites in action in regional tournament in Vegas: Preston-based Eastside FC ‘00 Red, featuring several Valley high school boys’ soccer players, fell this morning 5-3 to California’s West Coast FC Armour, finishing up play in the US Youth Soccer National League down in Las Vegas. Eastside, with Mount Si’s Mateo DiDomenico and Reed Paradissis along with Cedarcrest’s Connor McCabe and Caleb Chung, finished play with three wins, two losses and a tie split over a pair of weekend tournaments, both in Las Vegas, this weekend and also back in December. In other action this weekend, EFC tied teams from Philadelphia and St. Louis and their 3-1-2 record earned them fourth in their division. A congrats from us on their solid efforts down there, and we wish them a safe trip back home and back to their spring high school soccer seasons.
