Athletes of the Week for 5-2

A little late for these on a Monday, but it’s time now for our Athletes of the Week. We head to the boys for these.

MOUNT SI – The season is winding down for Mount Si’s boys’ lacrosse team, but we are providing recognition this week to Chris Haycock for his two goals last Thursday in a Wildcat loss to Juanita we mentioned earlier for you here. Haycock is leading the team in scoring, with 14 goals and three assists for a Mount Si team that has struggled this season; they are 3-11 this spring and winless at 0-7 within Kingco. They meet Eastlake tomorrow then finish the season with a pair of matches against Newport.

CEDARCREST – To track and field and distance man Grant Van Valkenburg gets our nod for a busy, yet successful, week. Van Valkenburg teamed with three others last Thursday to help the Red Wolves 4×400 boys’ relay team win its race in league action against Granite Falls and King’s up at GFHS, then last Saturday held up well in a 3200m boys’ race at the Shoreline Invitational, taking a solid 12th in that race. Van Valkenburg and the rest of his CHS team open postseason on Thursday with the Cascade Conference league meet at home in Duvall, and it’s expected he’ll lead the Cedarcrest delegation in their postseason push.
