Volleyball news on a Wednesday

Good Wednesday morning. We’ll wrap up girls’ soccer in a bit, but we have some volleyball for you.

Cedarcrest High School’s ladies fell in their home opener last night to Oak Harbor in four, 25-17, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18. Camyrn Bristow led the ladies from Whidbey Island with five aces, seven kills and 15 dgis while Leah Quidachay had 32 assists. Cedarcrest was paced by Natalie Vanderwal with 15 kills and two aces, and Caroline Tiffany’s 20 digs, kill and ace.

Also of note, Cierra Dean guided OH with three aces and 17 digs, and Taeler Gerde paced the Red Wolves with 15 kills, 16 digs and five aces.

CHS is at Marysville-Getchell tomorrow for a 7:00 first serve, then plays its first weekend tournament of the season on Saturday. It will be in Lynnwood, at Academy Sports Center.

Mount Si volleyball sweeps former Kingco 3A rival Saints
Mount Si’s volleyball teams swept the Interlake Saints in matches Monday. Highlights:

Varsity rallies for five-set nail-biter: The Wildcat varsity trailed two sets to one, but went to work in a big way late, rallying for a five-set win over the Saints at Interlake High School in Bellevue. Scores were 25-23, 19-25, 21-25, 25-12, 15-9 as Mount Si won its second straight match. Bailey Showalter led the way with 12 kills, 13 digs and an ace, and Bellah Gogan paced things for Mount Si with 11 kills, eight digs, three aces and 2 ½ blocks. Kami Smith pitched in 11 assists while Dana Dolan delivered 25 helpers, eight digs, 1 ½ blocks and three kills. The Wildcats are at Redmond tonight.

JV also wins cliff-hanger: Mount Si’s JV’s also played a close one with the Saints, but pulled it out of the fire in three, 25-20, 24-26, 15-13. Megan Simpson’s 14 assists, three digs and an ace, along with Tori BearBow’s 17 digs and two assists, guided the Wildcats in this one. Emily Dann had four kills, four digs and three aces, while Page Phelps added four aces. Mount Si is at Redmond tonight.

Mount Si “C” dominates Saints: Mount Si’s “C” team handled Interlake 25-18, 25-18, 25-11. Carly Fletcher’s two kills, 10 assists, three digs and two aces paced the Wildcats, while Ashely Wegner’s five digs, Ella Moore’s four digs and two aces, and Molly Harris’ four kills, seven digs and three aces aided the efforts. Alyssa Underbrink also had a kill, assist and 14 digs for Mount Si, who is at Redmond tonight.

The JV and “C” games are at 5:30, with the varsity to follow at 7:00, all at Redmond High School in Redmond, 17272 NE 104th St., across from Hartman Park on Redmond’s Education Hill.
