Cross country and volleyball as well on a Friday

Couple of other items, too, for you.

Mount Si High School’s cross country team opened the season with a solid effort against Issaquah and Newport in Bellevue Wednesday.

Paul Talens led the Wildcat boys, taking third overall clocking 16 minutes, 58.51 seconds on the Kelsey Creek Park course. Austin Gappa finished sixth (17:36.87) with Tychon Preston, Spencer Sprague, Jack Thorne and Jack Pratapas all finishing in the top 20. Top boys’ runner Joe Waskom did not run in yesterday’s race for Mount Si.

Addie Kaess led the Wildcat girls, finishing 12th with a time of 21:55.74. Rosamarie Bateman and Mac Saunders finished behind their Mount Si teammate in 13th and 14th respectively, and Chloe Hammer, a freshman running her first official varsity race, took 18th.

The Wildcats are at the Fort Steilacoom Invitational tomorrow down in Pierce County. A large number of teams from around the state will be in the competition, and the event has also drawn a couple of teams from around the Northwest (Portland, Boise and Vancouver, BC).

Cedarcrest volleyball remains winless to start season
It’s looking like it’ll be a difficult year for CHS’ volleyball ladies to get much going in a very challenging Wesco Conference, as they were swept again last night, but they are competing hard, that’s for sure.

CHS fell to Marysville-Getchell in three, 25-20, 25-12, 25-15, but did get 17 digs from Caroline Tiffany and six kills from Natalie Vanderwal. The Red Wolves remained winless to start the season at 0-3 with the loss. More from the Everett Herald.
