Mount Si’s volleyball team is headed to districts….but first, they need to know which gate they will enter the tournament through. A preview and our thoughts on tonight’s seeding game with Bothell.

Good Tuesday morning. Playoff action tonight for Mount Si High School volleyball and Cedarcrest girls’ soccer. We have a CHS preview and pick soon, but first, we lead with the Wildcats and their Kingco Tournament district seeding match with Bothell – at Bothell High School.

The Wildcats and Cougars meet for the first time in nearly a month tonight, after Mount Si won the regular season meeting with Bothell on this same BHS floor back on October 3. It went four sets, with the Wildcats taking it 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16. Mount Si earned its trip to districts beating Redmond this past Saturday but ended up in this game after being swept by Skyline following that win over the Mustangs that day.

Bothell is powered by senior leadership. On offense, Faith Brooks is averaging around eight or nine kills a match for the Cougars but was held to five kills in their loss to Mount Si earlier this month. Haley Gaw had five aces that night and is among the top servers for Bothell. Tia Potts defensively is getting it done; she had 19 digs against the Wildcats and she’s averaging around that much a contest for the Cougars. So as you can see, there’s some solid senior hands on that crew, senior hands that would love nothing more than to get a little revenge for losing to Mount Si during regular season play on their home floor for the first time in four years, according to Wildcat coach Bonnie Foote.

We do not have the stats from Saturday for you yet, so we hope to have those for you soon from the team. Just know that the players we profiled in our preview that morning, though, will be the players to watch. Freshman Bailey Showalter had 16 kills and 14 digs in the victory over the Cougars, while Dana Dolan added 36 assists and 10 digs that night. Watch Bre Fitzgerald. She had one of her better totals of the season that night in digs – 17 – so she will be looked to for strong defensive work. Also watch freshman Jade Petrzelka, who had a pair of aces and 11 digs in that contest. Mount Si will look to build off their strong showing Saturday in making it to districts, and a fifth-place seeding should set them up well for their first-round game on Saturday.

But, the reality of the situation remains that this game is a virtual road game with it being on Bothell’s home floor and the Cougars would love nothing more than, as we just noted, get revenge for Mount Si beating them in the regular season. We suspect that’s going to be in the offing, too, tonight. It’ll be a barnburner, but we like Bothell tonight to pull the upset, if you can call it that.
