Red Wolve girls’ hoops spoils Mountlake’s senior night and stabilizes playoff chances

Cedarcrest High School’s girls’ basketball team righted the ship after recent struggles that have seen their playoff positioning take a hit and picked up a win last night, in the process ruining opposing Mountlake Terrace’s senior night.

Rose Carlson led the Red Wolves with 11 points in the 53-33 blowout win over the Hawks at Mountlake Terrace High School.

“It was Mountlake Terrace’s senior night and as I told the girls before the game, this means they’ll come out very motivated and probably hit their early shots…and they did,” said coach Brad Knowles by email to the SVSJ. Cedarcrest, though, made it through the opening minutes just fine, holding an 18-9 lead after one, then after struggling in the third, the Red Wolves put things away with a strong final eight minutes. Senior Cassidy Sweney hit some clutch shots from outside and paced things with 10 for the Red Wolves, who with that win have likely stabilized their district RPI ranking.

Cedarcrest hosts its Senior Night on Tuesday against Shorewood, with Sweney and fellow senior Katelynn Smith set to be recognized for their four years in the program. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
