Busy times on the mat for Mount Si wrestlers

The past several days have been busy ones for Mount Si High School’s wrestling team.

It was especially busy last night as Mount Si hosted Newport and Bothell at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie for a double dual, winning both contests on the Wildcats’ Senior Night.

Mount Si beat the Knights In a close 37-30 result. Tryon Kaess (113) and Spencer Marenco (160) headlined the Wildcat efforts, both beating their Newport opponents by technical falls. Brody Belaire (138), Luke Harper (170), Mark Maurm (106) and Connor Knowles (145) were among the other Mount Si winners, all by pin, and in the match that perhaps decided the whole thing in favor of the Wildcats, Ezra Gallegos (152) held off Newport’s Juntao Zhong in a thrilling 14-12 decision.

Meanwhile, against the Cougars, Mount Si had an easier time of it with a 46-21 result. Kaess also beat his Cougar opponent by technical fall, and pins were recorded by Marum, Belaire, Braedon Haynie (132) and Jaeden Durham (145).

Wildcats fall at Issy: The two matches last night came off a tough loss Tuesday at Issaquah. The Eagles took the match 46-27. Belaire and Marenco both won close decisions over their Issy foes, and Harper picked up a win by pin. Marum also won his match handily but those wins were it as Issaquah foes pinned Hayne and Durham among others and also won some matches by forfeit.

Three placers in Prosser: Mount Si this past Saturday had three wrestlers place at the invitational they competed in over in eastern Washington. Durham, Marenco and Tate Stedman (195) were those three placers at the Rumble in the Valley event. Marenco took fifth, while the other two finished sixth in their weight classes.
