Cedarcrest athletes get league recognition

The Cascade Conference has released its all-league honors for winter sports, and Cedarcrest was well-represented.

The Red Wolves’ contingent is led by junior boys’ basketball star Zach Taylor, who was named the league’s boys’ hoops most valuable player this season, helping lead the Red Wolves to their second straight state regionals appearance, and just their third state trip in school history. Senior Justin Houser landed on the league’s second team and first-year CHS coach Mark Prince joined Sultan coach Nate Trichler as conference co-coaches of the year.

Two girls made the league first team for girls’ basketball, and those were sophomore Susan Kenney and junior Kailyn Campbell. Look for those two to lead the way next season as the Red Wolves continue to develop into a strong force within the conference.

In wrestling, a total of 11 wrestlers made the all-league list, solidifying the Red Wolves’ distinction as being the best wrestling program in the league. Bailey McBride (106), Nik Werner (113), Curtis Chittenden (120), Ely Malametz (126), Nick Decker (138), Carlos Toledano (145), Eli Gremmert and D.J. Bergquist (both 152), Cody Paxman (160), Martin Vakamoce (170), and Robby MacNair (185) all made it onto the list.
