Cedarcrest to send large delegation to 2A wrestling regionals

Like their upper Valley counterparts, Mount Si, Cedarcrest High School’s wrestling team will be sending a strong delegation of competitors to this weekend’s WIAA 2A regionals after a solid performance this past weekend in their subregional in Centralia.

Competing against top athletes from the south Sound-centric Evergreen Conference in their subregional, the Red Wolves advanced at least six into this weekend’s regionals, led by two weight class winners, and two more as alternates.

Caleb Lay (195 lbs.) and Freddy Reid (152) both won their weight classes, and Austin Link (132), Mack Miles (220), Michael Norris (145) and Evan Reid (126) also advanced, finishing in the top four of their weight divisions. Additionally, Ashton Butterfield (106) and Preston Goodwin (152) took fifth in their weight classes and are alternates who will compete if other wrestlers can not make it, which is entirely possible with the weather that’s in the forecast for this weekend.

This weekend’s regionals are down in Washougal, so there is a possibility that Cedarcrest may not be able to get down there for that due to the forecasted weather. We have been told, though, by team statistician Christi Norris that the travel plan involves athletes carpooling down with coaches, so no school bus transportation is involved, which should make it easier for them to get down there if the weather turns bad.

With that, after the break, we have a full rundown of what happened last Saturday, courtesy of TrackWrestling.com, edited for clarity. We should also mention that both Jessica Wonder (120) and Abby Varaday (140) earned trips to the girls’ regionals this weekend as well. We had their results for you earlier this week here.
