Mount Si, Cedarcrest senior athletes make college decisions, and news on CHS hoops cancellations……

Today is a major day for high school seniors playing college sports next year, as those seniors sign letters of intent to attend and play for schools this fall.

Six seniors have signed those scholarship letters today at Mount Si High School. They include girls’ lacrosse players Jessica Morris, with the University of Findlay, an NCAA Division II school in Ohio, and Tessa Lewis, with Southwestern University, an NAIA school in Kansas; boys’ soccer player Mateo DiDomenico, with Cal State East Bay, an NCAA Division II school in northern California; football player Jonny Barrett, with the Ivy League’s Dartmouth in New Hampshire; cross country’s Joe Waskom, with the University of Washington, where he will team with sister Hannah, a sophomore with the Huskies; and volleyballer Hayley West, who is signing a rowing scholarship with NCAA Division I Oregon State University. These six, many of whom had already previously announced verbal commitments with these schools, join previously signed senior softball player Abby Gronewald, with Fairfield University of Connecticut, and football player Cale Millen, with the University of Oregon.

In addition, baseball player Spencer Marenco has also signed, having inked with Yakima Valley Community College, and several other football players are also looking to sign with schools, including Slater Macko, who has announced he has been offered a scholarship by Western Oregon University.

At Cedarcrest High School, school is closed there today so we are not able to get a full list of signings for you, but we do know of at least two – softball player Michaela Carter, with Fordham, an NCAA Division I school in New York, and girls’ soccer player Brooke Benson, with NCAA Division II Minnesota-Crookston. Additionally, we are aware of at least two boys’ soccer players who are expected to also sign letters of intent today, but will await confirmation from the school for that information.

Mount Si’s annual signing ceremony was scheduled for this morning but due to school starting late due to the weather was pushed back to tomorrow, again weather and school schedules permitting.

Basketball
CHS games canceled: The Red Wolves’ makeup games with Edmonds-Woodway for both the boys and girls were postponed last night, and rescheduled for tonight, only to have them canceled again with no makeups now as a result of today’s Riverview School District school closures. How this will impact the Cedarcrest Northwest District 2A playoff RPI situation for the boys is not known; the cancellation will not impact the Red Wolve girls, as they have been locked into the seventh seed and will host Mountlake Terrace tomorrow – again weather permitting – at 7:00 in the first round of the Northwest 2A playoffs. CHS’ boys are scheduled to play Friday in their first game in the playoffs, and it will be away.
