News on this snowy Tuesday…..

Good Tuesday morning. Still a lot of snow out there and it’s going to be like this at least for the rest of the day today. We do have some items to discuss though.

First, basketball, and Mount Si High School’s scheduled boys’ basketball winner-to-state game has now been pushed back to at least Thursday due to the weather. There was some chatter on Twitter late yesterday suggesting that the WIAA has set a deadline for next Monday for all of the district tournaments, including the Wes-King tournament this game is part of, to be finished, so if there’s any more cancellations, chances grow the tournament as a whole could get scrubbed. Mount Si, however, should still be in good shape as they held a top seed and a strong state RPI ranking, so if the tournament were to be fully canceled the Wildcats should still make it to regionals.

Also canceled last night, and again tonight thanks to Riverview schools’ closure, is Cedarcrest High School’s girls’ Northwest 2A playoff game in Lynden. We’ll see when that gets rescheduled.

This weekend as well will be Mat Classic, the state high school wrestling meet, in the Tacoma Dome. The WIAA released the 32-competitor brackets for the weight classes yesterday, with the tournament being expanded to 32 in each weight class due to the weather-caused cancellations of the regional rounds this past weekend, including Mount Si and Cedarcrest High Schools’ ones in Moses Lake and Washougal, respectively. Here is a full list of the Valley boys and girls who will be competing in the woodshed on Friday with their first-round opponents.
