Athletes of the Week for 5-1

Athletes of the Week. Girls for both, and we also have a boys’ selection this week for Cedarcrest.

CEDARCREST – To the links we go this week. Maisie Walker was the Red Wolves’ top golfer in two competitions last week – the Burlington-Edison Invitational and a Wesco clash with Edmonds-Woodway and Lynnwood. Walker carded a 47 in that league three-way last Thursday to pace CHS’s efforts in that match, in which they finished second. She will likely be the top competitor as they approach the postseason here in a couple of weeks.

We also will have a boys’ recognition this week to make up for last week’s cancellation of the regular boys’ selection out of respect for the school as it mourned the passing of boys’ athlete Bryce Hefner. That recognition also takes us to the links where it’s a shared recognition this week. CHS’ boys won their three-way last week with Mountlake Terrace and Meadowdale narrowly – by four shots over the Hawks and five over the Mavericks – and they were paced by Hayden Whetten and Nico Cammarano, who both carded 41’s to lead CHS and are thus the recipients this week.

The boys are at Archbishop Murphy today while the girls head over the Cascades to Cle Elum for the Suncadia Invite tomorrow.

MOUNT SI – To the track we go this week. Karlie Stewart did very well in jumping events, winning both the high jump and long jump competitions last Thursday in the Wildcats’ dual Kingco meet at home in Snoqualmie with Skyline, then finished second in the high jump this past weekend at the Shoreline Invitational. Stewart is poised to be among the top contenders in those jumping events as the postseason approaches. Mount Si will be represented at three different invitational meets this weekend, but have finished Kingco competition until the postseason.
