Mount Si volleyball opens season on mixed note with Falcons

Good Wednesday morning. Mount Si High School’s volleyball team has started its season. We’ll have last night’s results hopefully later for you – the Wildcat varsity picked up a win over Kentwood, which we’re sure made coach Bonnie Foote one happy lady after what she’s had to deal with to start the season and what not – but we have Monday night’s action now. As you know, the Mount Si program was set to host Kentlake in the first athletic contests to be held in the school’s new gym. But complications related to the new school’s opening forced the games to be moved to Kentlake’s gym in Covington. Highlights:

Wildcats varsity unable to recover from slow start, falls to Falcons: Mount Si’s varsity fell in the first two sets and could not come back as they fell in four, 25-19, 25-23, 21-25,25-20, to the Falcons. The big games were had by three players expected to be contributors this fall for the Wildcats. Dana Dolan had 25 assists, nine digs, a kill and two assists while Tori BearBow had 15 digs. Bailey Sholwater added 22 digs, nine kills, three aces and an assist while Bre Fitzgerald pitched in five kills and nine digs.

Kentlake rallies for win over JV: Mount Si’s junior varsity could not close out their match after taking the opening set, then fell in three to Kentlake’s JV, 27-29, 25-20, 15-13. Katrice Dunn pitched in 15 assists, an ace and three digs for Mount Si, while Peyton McKenzie added 10 digs, seven kills and an assist. Clara Scholtfeldt rounded it out with 19 digs, a kill, an assist and three aces.

“C” team with season-opening sweep, always good for confidence: Mount Si’s freshman-laden “C” team was the lone winner of the three Wildcats teams Monday night, as they swept the Falcon “C” squad 25-16, 25-23, 17-15. And as always, many of the players pitched in something to the cause for Mount Si. Among them, Ella Moore had seven digs and six aces, Jasmine White had five kills, three digs and four aces, and Ananya Banjeree had a kill, three assists, four digs and four aces.

The program is set to host the first games in the new Mount Si gym tomorrow, as they host Interlake. 5:30 for “C” and JV, 7:00 for varsity.
