CHS cross country hosts lone home meet of season

Cedarcrest High School’s cross country team welcomed in various Wesco opponents Thursday for the Red Wolves’ lone home meet of the season.

Cedarcrest’s girls won the team title, beating Everett, Edmonds-Woodway and Jackson, while the 4A Timberwolves’ boys took the boys’ team title, beating Ed-Wood. The Red Wolve boys finished third.

Red Wolve Sonja Blycker finished second in the girls’ race, clocking 15:48 on a shorter than normal 4k course at Duvall’s McCormick Park. Hannah Brabec (17:09.41) finished eighth and Avery Zlateff (17:11.33) took ninth rounding out the top Red Wolve girls’ finishers.

John Meier clocked 13:57.91 to finish 10th leading Cedarcrest in the boys’ race. Cade LaTurner (14:00.65) took 13th aiding the Red Wolves.

“We had ourselves a really good day. Strong running from top to bottom,” noted coach Bruce McDowell in his meet report to the SVSJ.

According to McDowell, the course consisted of two laps on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail running between McCormick Park in Duvall and nearby Taylor’s Landing along the Snoqualmie River. The coach felt there were advantages to this for his team. “Good flat surface and a shorter distance allows us to run a quicker tempo than what a 5K course would allow,” he told us.

CHS is off this weekend and closes out the regular season next week meeting Archbishop Murphy, Shorecrest and Shorewood in the Shoreline city meet at Hamiln Park near the Shorecrest campus in Shoreline. That meet is next Wednesday in the expected rain.
