Valley athletes in action on college front
Several Valley college athletes competed in events yesterday. In track and field, Boise State freshman Cara Strodel, from Duvall and a 2011 Cedacrest HS grad, scored a 17th place finish in the women’s 1500m race at the Idaho Cup in Boise, clocking 5:03.20.

In baseball, Texas Tech scored a 3-1 win over Kansas last night in Big 12 action in Lawrence, KS. Tech frosh Tim Proudfoot, a 2011 MSHS grad from North Bend, went 1-3 with an RBI. Softball saw a busy day for Kyleen Sweepe and Central Washington at a tournament in Turlock, CA, yesterday, with a win over Humboldt State (3-1) and losses to San Francisco State (5-4) and UCSD (5-0). Sweepe played second base in the games against both UCSD and SFSU, recording a putout in each of those contests defensively. She also pinch-ran in the Humboldt game and scored a run.

Dartmouth softball was swept in an Ivy League twinbill by Princeton, 4-0 and 5-2. Senior pitcher Hillary Barker saw action for the Big Green in both games, pitching 1/3 inning of relief in game one then starting game two, going two innings and giving up four runs, all earned, on five hits. Barker, from Duvall, took the loss in the nightcap to go 2-4 on the season.
