Cedarcrest’s track and field teams headed over the mountains to Yakima yesterday and competed in the Don Holder Relays. Both Red Wolves teams had good showings and finished well.
The boys finished in a tie for ninth with 21 points; Yakima’s Eisenhower, with 56 points, was the team winner on the boys’ side. There were several strong performances by Red Wolve boys. CHS distance runners shined in the 1600m, with senior Mitchell Montgomery finishing second (4:22.16) in the varsity race and sophomore Logan Orndorf taking a solid eighth in the freshman/sophomore race (4:44.81). Senior Dallin Candland scored a third place finish in the 300m hurdles (44.01 seconds), and junior Cody Wanichek took home fifth in the steeplechase race (6:51).
Both boys’ 4×100 relay entries had good showings, with the foursome of Luke Driscoll, Justin Houser, Matt Erickson and Austin Koons taking eighth in the varsity race (46.75) and the unit of Elliott Dick, Josh Zimmerman, Liam Thomas and Quinn Radbourne taking fourth in the freshman/sophomore run (49.23). Houser followed up his showing in the relay race with a sixth place finish in the javelin (150’5”) and junior Bennett Minnie had a strong showing in the pole vault, finishing fourth (12’ clearance).
On the girls’ side, there were an equal number of strong efforts. The team as a whole finished 14th with 12 points, with Snohomish’s Glacier Peak taking the team win with 77 points. Junior Alesha Cronie scored a third place finish in the 100m varsity race (12.79 sec.), then teamed up with Miranda Vergillo, Tasha Hartwig and Bailey Parish for an eighth-place performance in the 4×100 varsity relay (54.06). Hartwig herself had a solid individual performance, with the senior scoring a ninth-place finish in the 400m (1:05.68). Sophomore Diana Carr ran well in the 1600m, finishing ninth (5:36.54), and Parish added an eighth-place finish in the pole vault (8’ clearance) to her solid performance in the relay. Junior Allison Bawden was busy competing in three events, and her best finish came in the high jump, where she finished third (4’8”).
