News and notes, 5-2

A couple of notes this morning in the news:

Roddewig, Alexander hold own in league decathlon
Central Washington’s Brandon Roddewig and Colin Alexander are hanging tough with the best of the GNAC in the league’s decathlon championships being held down in Monmouth, OR. The second and final day of competition is today, but both Valleyites did well in the opening day of action yesterday.

Roddewig, from Fall City, and Alexander, from North Bend, competed in five events, including the 100m, 400m, long jump, shot put and high jump. Roddewig is currently fourth in the standings after day one, just behind Western Oregon’s Jake Hyde for third place. Roddewig, a Wildcat junior, did better in all five events than Alexander, and is in fourth overall, while Alexander, a CWU senior, is in ninth.

Cedarcrest boys hit the links
The Red Wolves softball and Mount Si baseball teams were rained out yesterday, but CHS’ boys and Wildcat girls got out on the golf course yesterday.

Mount Si’s girls fell 219-304 (lower score wins) to Mercer Island in the final match of the regular season yesterday at Jefferson Park GC in Seattle. Tabitha Dorn fired a 52 to lead the Wildcats, who were aided by a 59 from Paxton Richardson. Meanwhile, CHS’ boys headed up to Useless Bay GC on Whidbey Island and held their own in a Cascade/Wesco clash with fellow league host South Whidbey and Wesco foe Marysville-Pilchuck. More on that match in the Everett Herald.
