Athletes of the Week for 5-2

Back to the ladies this week for our Athletes of the Week, and we are starting with wild card selections this week for Cedarcrest’s girls.

MOUNT SI – The last girls’ sport yet to be recognized this spring is girls’ tennis. The tennis ladies have had an interesting year, with a midseason coaching change, but that has not fazed Samantha Lindmeier, who won two matches last week and earns our recognition this week. Lindmeier beat foes from both Sammamish and Bellevue and is helping stabilize a Wildcat girls’ tennis program which continues to improve slowly as the season wears on. With two solid coaches in charge in longtime coach Jane Job and varsity boys’ coach Jim Gibowski, this program is in good hands.

CEDARCREST – Back to the track and we give the honor this week to sophomore Bailey Parish, who scored two event wins in last Thursday’s Cascade Conference meet at King’s in Seattle against the Knights and South Whidbey. Parish won both the pole vault and long jump events, with her clearance of 8’9” in the pole vault being a season best. Parish is among several CHS girls who look to contend for postseason success as those meets get started next week after one final tuneup, and it will be a tough one at that, against Kingco 3A teams Mount Si and Mercer Island Thursday on the island.
