Previewing and picking a little Saturday action on the diamond, Wildcat fastpitch style, in the shadow of Cabela’s, 5-26

Now to our quick preview and pick for the Mount Si fastpitch’s loser out state tournament game today at 11am.

KINGCO 3A FASTPITCH
WIAA STATE 3A TOURNAMENT – LOSER OUT
MOUNT SI WILDCATS VS. BAINBRIDGE SPARTANS
REGIONAL ATHLETIC COMPLEX FIELDS, LACEY, 11AM FIRST PITCH

The Wildcats and Spartans meet in a rematch of last week’s district tournament second-round game, which saw Mount Si hand Bainbridge its first loss of the season and as a result wreck the state title dreams of the Spartans, who ended up finishing fifth at the SeaKing event only to lose yesterday in their first game, officially ending their chances of making the state title game. So it can definitely be expected that Bainbridge will be out for a little revenge today, so Mount Si’s defense and pitching, led by Kingco first team OF Celine Fowler, second team OF Lauren Smith and honorable mention P Kendra Lee, will need to be ready for a Bainbridge offense which likely will be a hungry bunch today, for sure.

Mount Si scored first in last week’s game, and held the lead despite a couple of Bainbridge rallies; they will need to do this again today. The Wildcat offense came out in a big way last night against Mickey Blad’s friends and former teammates from Bonney Lake, winning 10-2, and will need to do that again in this game to move on.

We suspect this game will come down to which team has better mental focus – the one who clearly could be out for a little revenge, or the one who recognizes that and makes adjustments to keep the other off balance. This will be a close game, with a tough result for scarlet and gray.

BAINBRIDGE 4, MOUNT SI 2

Directions – Here’s quick directions for those of you who want to get out and spend some of your holiday weekend down there:

From all locations in the Valley, make your way to SR 18 (Snoqualmie Parkway) and head down that road to I-5 at Federal Way and get on the freeway heading south towards Portland. Follow I-5 down to the Marvin Road exit, #111. This is the exit, by the way, to get to the big Cabela’s store down there, but instead of turning right to go there, you’ll turn left onto SR 510 and Marvin Road, and follow down to Steilacoom Road SE and turn left. The entrance to the park will shortly thereafter be on your right.

As mentioned, Cabela’s is nearby (about a 5-10 min. drive from the complex across I-5) and there are several restaurants in the vicinity if you want to get a bite to eat after today’s action. The trip time down there should be around 90 minutes or so, with good traffic expected as most people have already traveled to their holiday destinations.
