Athletes of the Week for 1-2-2013

Time now for our first athletes of the week for 2013. We take you to the basketball floor for both of these girls’ winners.

MOUNT SI – You wouldn’t know it from the stats, but the play of one junior earned some praise last week down at the Surf N’Slam tournament in San Diego, so in recognition of the kudos she earned from the tournament, we’re going to offer some of our own now. Madi Bevens was named “Player of the Game” by the Surf N’Slam folks for last Thursday’s Wildcat win over Red Bluff, and she was also named to the tournament all-star team. Bevens is a newcomer to the Wildcats this year, as she transferred to Mount Si over the summer from Union High School in Vancouver, and her experience in the GSHL league as a Titan should help her as Mount Si rolls into Kingco play after they get back from San Diego, which should be sometime today after the girls and coaches enjoyed a full day at Disneyland yesterday.

CEDARCREST – It was a good tournament for junior Susan Kenney and her Red Wolves team at the ProStock Winter Classic in Bellingham last week. Kenney had a double-double Thursday of 19 points and 10 rebounds, then scored another 10 points Friday, as the Red Wolves split a pair of games in the tournament, falling last Thursday to Tahoma before beating host Bellingham to wrap things up last Friday. The Red Wolves are on a roll to start the season at 8-2, and will look to work their way through the Cascade Conference schedule coming up with an eye on a high seed into the district tournament.
