College roundup, 8-17

Good morning. Two games from the college scene of note for you today.

Basketball: Riley leads way for Portland men’s hoops in win across Atlantic
It has been a good trip overseas for the University of Portland men’s basketball team, and especially their senior from North Bend, Tanner Riley. Riley, for the second time on this trip, led the Pilots in scoring, and it helped them grab a win.

The 2010 Mount Si grad scored 18 points to lead Portland to a 111-70 win over the CB Gran Canaria club last night in the Canary Islands, where the Pilots went to following a pair of games last week in Madrid, Spain. CB, according to the school, was a team made up of players from the islands who play professionally within Spain, so this was definitely a good test for the Pilots.

This game was part of a tour of Spain and the Canary Islands the Portland team has been on the past several days; the Pilots, in addition to playing games against several clubs, have also seen some sights there and learned a lot about the region, helping them educationally.

They play one more game tonight, then will head back to Madrid to prepare for their return to the United States.

Soccer: Evergreen opens with win
The Evergreen State men’s soccer team blanked Trinity Lutheran 2-0 to open the season yesterday in Olympia. Mount Si grad Dyson Fowler, from North Bend, returns this season for his senior campaign with the Geoducks, and saw 30 minutes of action off the bench in the contest for ESC. He recorded no stats of note.
