Mount Si gymnasts led by Holt, but fall to two of the top teams in league in home opener

Mount Si High School’s gymnastics team welcomed in some top-flight competition for their home opener in the new MSHS gymnasium last Thursday.

The Wildcats took on Kingco 4A stalwarts North Creek and Newport, and the two opponents did not disappoint, both scoring better than 170’s as a team to finish one-two (North Creek eked out Newport 170.8-170.5 for the top team position) while Mount Si finished third scoring 160.85, around average for them this season.

Kaitlyn Holt led Mount Si in the all-around scoring 33.1 to finish eighth. Her feature event was vault, in which she took fourth scoring 8.6. Sydney Haberman took 10th in the all-around pacing the Wildcats with a 32.35. Her flagship score was on beam, where she finished fourth with a 9.05, the only 9.0 or better score on an event the whole meet for Mount Si.

Also of note, Vanessa Caluori took ninth in the bars, with a 7.15, and both Lauren Bennetts and Claire Stone landed 10th-place finishes tied in the beam, each with an 8.7. Full disclosure from your editor and that is Claire’s mom is your editor’s fellow MSHS class of 1997 grad Wendy Stone.

Mount Si is back in action on Wednesday taking on Eastlake and Inglemoor at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore.
