Western Washington soccer, with Valley athletes, takes on Canadian foes

Western Washington University’s men’s and women’s soccer teams, which each feature one Valley athlete, both traveled north across the border into Canada last night to meet the University of the Fraser Valley in exhibition games in Abbotsford, BC.

The Viking women won 2-0, while the men fell 2-1. Stats for the two locals, women’s player Ashton Griffen, a senior from Duvall and Cedarcrest High School grad, and men’s player Nate Popp, a redshirt freshman from Ames Lake and Mount Si High School grad, were not available.

The next games for both teams are exhibitions later this week, with their regular season opening up next week.
