Friday news….(UPDATED)

Good Friday morning. It is the start of Labor Day weekend, and also the first active day of sports action for the 2013-14 school year. A reminder for all of you that we will be out this afternoon at the Football-a-Palooza party at Mount Si High School, then the Scarlet and Gray game which will follow. We will be doing most of our team preview interviews today, and you can look for those here on the blog starting Sunday with a look at the Wildcat football team and Cedarcrest High School cross country squad. But in the meantime, we have one item.

Football: Illinois State unable to hold on against Ball State
Illinois State’s football team held the lead in the first half, but three third-quarter touchdowns proved to be a gamechanger for Ball State, as the Division I FBS team rallied to beat the Redbirds 51-28 in the season opener for both teams in Muncie, IN, last night.

There is one Valleyite playing for Illinois State this season – Joe Farmer, he of North Bend and a MSHS grad from 2011. Farmer is a sophomore this fall, and saw some playing time in last night’s contest for the Redbirds, and had one kickoff return for five yards.
