Mount Si’s three-year unbeaten league run ends, 9-29-11

Despite a strong night from their senior star, the Mount Si volleyball team did something last night that they haven’t done since 2008: lose a league match.

The Wildcats fell to the Mercer Island Islanders last night in four on the island, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23. Sarah McDonald led the way for Mount Si with 26 kills and seven digs, but the loss for the Wildcats was the first within Kingco play since October of 2008, also against the Islanders on the island. Sophomore Lyndsay Carr bagged 15 kills and seven digs to pace the efforts, while junior Lauren Smith was busy dealing, with 41 assists and nine digs to help Mount Si. Junior Rachel Hayford was also busy with 19 digs to aid the cause for the Wildcats.

Mount Si is on the road next week, with games Monday at Liberty and Wednesday at Sammamish, with first serves in both matches scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Islander JV dominates Wildcats
Mercer Island’s JV volleyballers scored a 25-14, 25-22, 15-4 win over Mount Si’s junior varsity squad, with Sydney Leonard leading the way for the Wildcats. Leonard had six assists and five digs to pace Mount Si. Heather Vanourek added eight digs of her own to aid the Wildcat cause.

The loss dropped Mount Si to 4-3 in league play.
