News and notes on this Friday

We have a couple of items of interest for you on this Friday as you get ready for your weekend, which we hope is starting tonight in the shadow of the Microsoft campus, down at Interlake High School in Bellevue, where the Mount Si football team is meeting the Saints. As we had for you this morning, we are picking Mount Si to win, by less than a touchdown.

Fastpitch tournaments involving Valley girls this weekend
Softball is busy this weekend, with a couple of fastpitch club tournaments we will be following which have local girls competing in them.

Locally, the Mike Richdale Memorial tournament is being held tomorrow and Sunday. The U18 action will be tomorrow only at Service Club Fields in Kent. Two of the participating teams have Mount Si players playing for them – the Northwest Ladysharks Wetherbee and NW Ladysharks Gold. Ladysharks Wetherbee features six present or future Wildcat players, including much of the returning sophomore core of Mount Si. This group includes infielders Celine Fowler, Rachael Picchena and Britney Stevens, outfielders Nikki and Jenny Carroll, and pitcher Paige Wetherbee.

Ladysharks Gold features Wildcat junior outfielder Lauren Smith. The two teams will face one another, weather permitting, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Service Club facility, which is off Highway 18. To get there, take Highway 18 to the S.E. 272nd St. exit, and turn right going down the hill. Go west on 272nd until you reach 144th Ave. S.E. and turn left. Head up the hill and the park will be on your left just before S.E. 288th St. Turn left on 288th and the parking lot will be on your left.

Meanwhile, over in the Tri-Cities, teams from the U12 and U14 Issaquah Flame programs that have a number of North Bend players playing for them will be competing this weekend in the Clarion Breeze tournament at Columbia Playfields in Richland. The U12 Abraham features North Benders Maddy Trout, Emily Webb and C.J. Howatson, and the U14 Inferno includes fellow North Benders Abby Lord, Bayley Bennett, Tori Hellervick and Jamie Trotto. The two teams are scheduled to take on teams from around Washington, and both teams also have a game scheduled each against teams from Boise, ID.

Pool play takes place all day tomorrow, with playoff action on Sunday. We’ll keep you posted on the scores from these games throughout the weekend.

Wildcat football alums in action this weekend right across the Cascades
Mount Si football fans looking for something to do this weekend can do a two-for-one. One, travel across the pass and see the fall colors, and two, head to Ellensburg to see Wildcat football alums in action. Simon Fraser University will be playing Central Washington University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest tomorrow at 1:00 over at Tomlinson Stadium in Ellensburg.

The matchup features Mount Si grads on both sides of the ball. For Central, their starter at right tackle will be sophomore Michael Nelson, a member of Mount Si’s Class of 2009 from Carnation. Simon Fraser has two Mount Si grads: Class of 2009’er Sean Snead, a sophomore, and Class of 2010 alum Eric Murphy, a freshman. A third SFU player, Robert Sharps, is also a freshman; he graduated from Eastlake HS but has ties to the Wildcat program.

If you go, tickets for adults cost $12. Those who can’t make it can listen or watch online. For more information, and game notes, head to Central’s website.
