Nelson punches berth to state 3A boys’ golf tourney

Mount Si High School will have a representative at next spring’s state 3A boys’ golf tournament.

Sophomore Alex Nelson fired a round of 79, narrowly making the final cut for state out of the SeaKing District, finishing in a tie for 20th at yesterday’s district tournament in Snohomish. The top 23 plus ties made it in, with the final cut being a score of 80.

Interlake’s Grant Cole won the tournament, carding a 72. Mount Si’s other competitor in yesterday’s tournament, Jimmy Jacobson, had a tough time, especially on the front nine, and ended up with a round of 83, three shots behind the final cut.

The state tournament will be next spring, at the end of May 2014, at a site to be announced.
