Cedarcrest ladies’ hoops begins what they hope will be a deep run in the playoffs against a team from the border…..preview and pick now!

Let’s talk some playoffs folks. Cedarcrest High School’s basketball teams are in the Northwest 2A District postseason, and it all begins tonight for the Red Wolve girls as they take on Blaine in a loser-out first-round game.

WESCO 2A/3A BASKETBALL
NORTHWEST 2A DISTRICT TOURNAMENT, FIRST ROUND, LOSER OUT
CEDARCREST RED WOLVES (14-6, SEED #7) VS. BLAINE BORDERITES (5-15, SEED #10)
CEDARCREST HS, DUVALL, 7:00 P.M. TIPOFF

This has been a good season for the Red Wolves, who finished 14-6 and in the process of acheiving that solid record beat several strong teams in Wesco play, including Edmonds-Woodway Monday to close the regular season. It’s a younger group, with players such as sophomores Kat Townley and Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson, juniors Ava Erhardt, Jaylin Yowell, Sidra Griffin and Grace McKenzie, and senior Helena Van Ess among others.

The team has really prided itself on its defense as of late. “Our defense has been great lately and it really slows down our opponents,” Red Wolve coach Brad Knowles tells us by email. Defense has been a hallmark of Knowles’ teams over the years, and it’s no different this year.

Blaine will have a big challenge on their hands dealing with this defense, but they do have a few players CHS will need to pay attention to. Sophomore Krystin Kamrath hit three three-pointers in a recent game and all looked solid on film we viewed. She’s likely going to be their key outside presence and players such as McKenzie, Townley and “Mad Dog” will need to pay attention to Kamrath on defense. Seniors Emma Mulryan and Taylyn DePauw also bear watching as well. As those two appear to be post players, Van Ess will probably see them for the most part. Blaine is on a six-game losing streak coming into this so they’ll be looking to break this tonight and dash the postseason hopes for the Red Wolves.

However, we think Cedarcrest will be very much ready. Heck, they just came in off a great win Monday to close out the regular season and have beaten their share of solid 3A opposition in Wesco so they’ll be ready for anything. Look for the Red Wolves to move on to this weekend and the round of eight.

CEDARCREST 50, BLAINE 40
