Previewing state high school meets this weekend in wrestling, swimming and gymnastics…..

We should also mention the state high school wrestling, boys’ swimming and gymnastics meets are this weekend, all starting tomorrow. A quick look:

Wrestling: Both Mount Si and Cedarcrest High Schools will have boys and girls’ representatives competing in the meets starting tomorrow at the Tacoma Dome.

CHS’ boys in the 2A tournament will be represented by Evan Reid (132), who will open his tournament with a match against Selah’s Jesse Salinas. Matt Weinert (182) also represents Cedarcrest in Tacoma and will meet Sedro-Woolley’s Sebastian Hanna to open the tournament. Both of these bouts should happen sometime in the morning tomorrow. The Red Wolves girls will be repped by Abby Varaday, and she will open her quest for a title competing against Eatonville’s Kayla Trujillo. Action will take place all day tomorrow and Saturday in the Tacoma Dome.

As for Mount Si, the boys will have three entrants in the 4A meet. Mark Marum (106) opens against Spencer Needham, from Union down in Clark County, while Connor Knowles (152) takes on Kyler Anstron from University in Spokane and Jaeden Durham (160) meets Ali Hasan from Lake Stevens in his first round match. These will likely take place around lunchtime with action continuing for them as well through Saturday. The Wildcat girls’ Aynslee Hester (140) meets Erica Grant from Olympia in her first-round clash.

Gymnastics: Mount Si will be very much represented in the individual event competition tomorrow. It starts at 2:00 with the uneven bars. Wildcats Tyler Zwiefelhofer and Kaitlyn Holt will compete in that event. That will be followed by the beam. Zwiefelhofer and Holt will be joined there by fellow ‘Cats Lauren Bennetts, Claire Stone and Sydney Haberman. After that, Holt will be on the floor exercise and she and Haberman wrap up the afternoon on the vault. It should all be done around 5:30. All of this is at Sammamish High School in Bellevue with top scorers advancing to the finals on Saturday.

Boys’ Swimming: Mount Si will have two competitors tomorrow at the 4A state meet in Federal Way at the King County Aquatic Center. Nate Harris will participate in the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard butterfly, while Ty Mitton will compete in diving. Their action starts at 9:45am and lasts all day with finals on Saturday.

We wish everyone good luck this weekend!!
