College men’s soccer team with a Valley athlete set to compete for conference title

Good Thursday morning. While we all digest the news from yesterday which we covered extensively regarding the newest delay to the restart of high school sports in Washington, we have news from the college ranks this morning.

Clemson University’s men’s soccer team – which features a lower Valley athlete – scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the late stages of the game and they outlasted an upset bid from the University of Virginia beating the Cavaliers 2-1 in a semifinal game last night of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. Redshirt freshman Enrique Montana III, from Duvall and a 2019 Cedarcrest High School grad, plays for Clemson, but did not play in last night’s game. That said, he has seen action this fall and could once again see it this weekend as the Tigers play in the conference title game on Sunday.

They will play either the University of Pittsburgh or Notre Dame in that game, which will be nationally televised from Cary, NC, and the WakeMed Soccer Park, which hosts pro women’s soccer’s North Carolina Courage team. It is a 9am kickoff our time in the Valley and will be on ESPNU, which is available locally in the Valley on Comcast, DirecTV and Dish Network. If you can, tune in and support the Tigers and your Valley athlete.
