Valley college soccer action, 10-29

On the soccer pitch yesterday, some action for Valley players.

Butterfield back in net for CWU, picks up shutout thanks to Interlake grad
Central Washington’s women scored a 1-0 overtime win over Northwest Nazarene, and goalkeeper Kori Butterfield was key. The sophomore from Duvall and 2010 Cedarcrest HS grad made five saves to pick up the shutout, which was made official with Central’s game-winning goal in the 92nd minute, the lone goal of the match. That goal was scored by freshman Danielle Brandli from Bellevue. Mount Si fans may remember her as a top player for Kingco rival Interlake, who graduated from there this past June.

Tough day at office for Cody Tipton, Linfield men
The Wildcats fell on the road to Whitworth 2-0, and an incident involving the Linfield junior goalkeeper and Mount Si grad from North Bend was the big story in the match. Tipton, who had started the match and was doing just fine, having made two saves and only giving up one goal, was assessed a red card by game officials and ejected from the contest in the 49th minute for what was reported as use of his hands outside of the goal box; this is not legal in the rules of soccer.

Evergreen men fall to Northwest
The Geoducks were blanked by their local rivals 3-0. Sophomore Dyson Fowler and freshman Ben Joselyn, both Mount Si grads, started and played the full 90, and each had a shot on goal. Ben’s brother Sam, a sophomore who is also a Wildcat alum, did not play. All are from North Bend and Ben Joselyn recently joined the Evergreen team after transferring from the UW.

Northwest women blank Oregon Tech
The Eagles shut out the visitors 2-0. Jessica Oliver, sophomore from North Bend and Mount Si grad, started and played the full 90, recording no stats of note. Jordyn Wilson, Northwest junior from Snoqualmie and 2009 Mount Si grad, did not play. She has been battling injuries as of late and recently missed a couple games due to those injuries.

Rest of the scores:

Linfield women defeated Whitworth 1-0 (Jessie Hargett, LIN, Fr, North Bend, MSHS, did not play)
W. Washington women defeated W. Oregon 3-0 (Ashton Griffen, WWU, Fr, Duvall, Cedarcrest HS, S. Oregon U., did not play)
