Valleyites on the college gridiron, 10-29

On the gridiron yesterday, here’s how Valley athletes fared.

Battle of Mount Si grads goes to Hiebert, Humboldt
In a game that featured ex-Wildcats on both sides of the ball, Humboldt State scored a 42-10 win last night at home over Simon Fraser. And three Mount Si grads got their names on the stat sheet. Humboldt junior Alex Hiebert, a 2008 grad, caught two passes for 18 yards and also had a tackle on defense. SFU sophomore Sean Snead, a 2009 MSHS alum, had two tackles of his own, and Eric Murphy, a 2011 Wildcat grad and SFU freshman, had one tackle. Humboldt freshmen Jarrett Adams and Taylor Mitchell did not see action; both of them graduated from MSHS back in June.

Eastern’s title defense over after loss to Portland State
It was going to be a tough road, and it proved to be that for Eastern, as they fell to Portland State 43-26 at home yesterday, pretty much ending any chance of the Eagles making the postseason this fall. Charles “Dexter” Moetului, Eastern senior and 2007 Mount Si grad from North Bend, made five tackles for EWU in the contest. It was his sack of Weber State’s QB in a game about a month ago which helped seal a win which turned into a long four-game win streak, a streak which ended with yesterday’s loss.

Fort Lewis-CO falls to league rival
The Skyhawks were routed by Chadron State of Nebraska 45-21. Junior defensive end Cary Purchase did his best to help his FLC team. Purchase made two tackles, and the Mount Si grad, from Fall City, also recorded his team’s only “quarterback hurry” of the game.
