Playoff previews and picks, plus some news about radio coverage of Cedarcrest football…..

We have a twin bill of playoff previews and picks this morning for you for action scheduled for tonight. One from Cedarcrest, the other from Mount Si. However, before we get to that, we have some news on tomorrow’s CHS football game.

If you go to the Northwest Conference website and look at their schedule for tomorrow, it lists the Cedarcrest home playoff game against Blaine, and has the logo for KPUG radio next to it, indicating that Bellingham station will be carrying the game live. We checked KPUG’s website and it still lists a TBA for that time slot on their schedule, but that TBA is for high school football playoffs, so it’s probably a good bet to assume that game will be the one they’ll be covering. We’ll check again later today and see if that changes. KPUG has a live webstream on their site (which is linked here in this item), so the game should be available there. In any event, if the station is carrying it live, this will be a good alternative option for those of you in Carnation and Duvall who will be unable to attend the contest due to work or other commitments. So we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Now to the previews and picks. We’ll start with Cedarcrest volleyball against Mount Baker.

Northwest 2A District volleyball tournament opening round game (loser out)
Cedarcrest Red Wolves vs. Mount Baker Mountaineers – Tonight, 6:00 p.m., Cedarcrest HS, Duvall

Mount Baker may be the #5 seed out of the Northwest Conference, but their record doesn’t show that. They are 9-5 on the season coming into a matchup tonight against a Red Wolves squad which has struggled as of late, but did score a win in their final regular season game last Tuesday at Sultan. Lauren Labrosse leads the Red Wolves, who will look to make their way into the district tournament with a win. Raney Lepper leads MB, and she had 11 kills in the Mountaineers’ last game, a win over Blaine last Wednesday. Look for Lepper and Mount Baker to get it done tonight. Mount Baker in three

Now to Mount Si soccer, first round test against Bellevue tonight in the Kingco Tournament.

Kingco 3A Conference girls’ soccer tournament first round (loser out)
Mount Si Wildcats vs. Bellevue Wolverines – Tonight, 5:30 p.m., Lake Washington HS, Kirkland

These two teams met last Tuesday at Mount Si on Senior Night, and Wildcats scored 2-0 win behind the pair of Claire Larsen and Miranda Rawlings. Each scored a goal, and they assisted on the other’s tally, all of that within a minute of one another in the second half. But last Thursday’s game for Mount Si was a better illustration of how this team has fared this season – peaks and valleys. The Wildcats started out slow, and were down 3-0 early in the game at Mercer Island before rallying to take a 3-3 tie which earned Mount Si and Bellevue a third-place tie in the 3A league standings. Mount Si will need to come out better out of the gate tonight if they want success. Getting the first goal would not hurt, especially if such goal came within the first 20 minutes of play.

Watch for Sophia Rouches, Laura Barnes and the defense, led by Brittany and Taylor Duncan, to also be keys tonight. Wildcat coach Darren Brown likes his team’s chances, but the team has to be on top of its game tonight in order for them to be successful. If they have another slow start, their season will be over before they know it. Mount Si 2-1
