Athletes of the Week for 5-20

Back with another edition of our Athletes of the Week. We go to the girls for these.

CEDARCREST – We’re on the softball diamond this week, and recognizing the Red Wolves for their Cascade Conference regular season title. They closed out the regular season last Friday with a 6-3 win over Lakewood, and there were quite a few players that were instrumental in that success. We, however, will recognize freshman Elaine Townley. She went 3-4 with three runs scored for CHS pacing their efforts. She and her older sister, LuAnn, have both been key pieces this spring for the Red Wolves, as they now look to make it to the state tournament with a strong showing at the 2A Northwest District tournament, which starts this week. We’re working to get season stats for you and prep a preview of that upcoming tournament that we’ll have up for you soon at the SVSJ.

MOUNT SI – We have not made much if any mention this season of their inaugural season of girls’ high school lacrosse, so we’re going to offer that team a little recognition in this segment. They completed their season May 9 with a victory and finished the season 6-5 overall, and having won five out of their last six contests. Leading the team in scoring this season was Hannah Buzard, who scored 24 goals, and who earns our recognition here this week. Buzard and her teammates will now work this summer on improving their games and also likely help to promote the program in the community. The Wildcat girls’ high school program competed this spring as a junior varsity team, so it is likely they’ll become a varsity program in coming years as the program grows.
