On this Sunday…….

Good Sunday morning. We’ll have another in our series of sports previews on deck, but first, we have a look at last night’s action involving local athletes.

College Volleyball
UNC Charlotte def. UNC Asheville 25-12, 25-17, 25-23: The 49’ers took one at home in North Carolina behind the efforts of senior Sarah McDonald. McDonald, a 2012 Mount Si High School graduate from Snoqualmie, recorded 14 kills, an assist, two digs and two blocks to pace Charlotte, who went to 2-1 on the season with the win.

Santa Clara def. UC Riverside 25-23, 25-18, 25-14: SC bested the in-state foe at home in California last night with the help of North Bend’s Anna McCreadie. The 2015 Mount Si High School grad, and older sister of Wildcat varsity player Katie McCreadie, started for the Broncos and recorded 10 kills and three blocks.

Lewis-Clark State def. St. Francis-IN 25-21, 25-14, 25-11: Senior Robyn Schirmer, from North Bend and a 2010 MSHS alum, had nine assists and two digs to aid the Warriors to the home win in Lewiston, ID, which completed a sweep of two matches on the day; Schirmer did not play in the other LCSC win, over Evergreen State.

USC Upstate def. UNC Charlotte 25-18, 25-20, 25-19: McDonald had three kills, two aces, nine digs and a block for the 49’ers in an afternoon loss at home in their weekend tournament in North Carolina.

Santa Clara def. Rutgers 25-21, 25-13, 25-19: McCreadie pitched in three kills and two digs to pace the Broncos to the home win in northern California yesterday morning over the Big 10 school from New Jersey.

Baseball
Proudfoot factors in big road win for Snappers: In minor-league baseball action, North Bend’s Tim Proudfoot hit two doubles, drove in a run and scored another, as the Oakland A’s-affiliated Beloit Snappers rallied with two runs in the ninth to steal a 2-1 road win last night in the Midwest “A” League over the Milwaukee Brewers-affiliated Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Appleton, WI. One of the two doubles the 2011 MSHS grad hit drove in the tying run, and then he scored the game-winning run later in the frame. Proudfoot is now hitting .200 on the season for Beloit. The ex-Wildcat was drafted by the A’s in this year’s MLB draft.

Women’s Soccer
College-Linfield blanks Evergreen State: In an exhibition game yesterday, NCAA Division III Linfield College of McMinnville, OR, posted a 3-0 home shutout over visiting Evergreen State, from the NAIA, yesterday. Mount Si HS grad Laura Barnes started and logged the full 90 for the Geoducks; the newcomer, from North Bend, had no stats of note for ESC.

NWSL-Stanton plays in front of friends and family: Sky Blue FC’s Nikki Stanton, from North Bend, played 15 minutes last night for her New York/New Jersey-based professional side as they scored a nice 1-1 tie against the Seattle Reign FC at Memorial Stadium in Seattle. Stanton was the lone sub used by SBFC in the contest, and that was certainly fitting for the 2008 MSHS alum, as she got a chance to play in front of family and friends in the contest. Stanton had no stats of note aside from one foul committed. We have video of the game for you below.
