BREAKING NEWS: Mount Si baseball coach Cribby announces resignation; headed to college baseball

We have breaking news for you out of Mount Si baseball, and this comes as a bit of a shock to your editor, and probably will to many of the team’s players, player parents and fans.

Wildcat head coach Elliott Cribby, in an email to media this afternoon, announced his resignation as coach of the Mount Si baseball team, after two successful seasons which saw them make the state playoffs both years and win the state title in 2011 in dramatic walk-off fashion over Shorewood. Cribby, in his email, announced that he has accepted a position with the Abilene Christian University baseball program in Abilene, TX, where he will oversee the team’s pitching staff and also be responsible for the program’s recruitment of athletes. Abilene Christian will be in Division I next year of the NCAA and competing within the Southland Conference.

“It is a great opportunity for me,” Cribby said. He did add this about Mount Si. “The future is bright for Wildcat Baseball and it has truly been an honor to coach such wonderful student-athletes,” he said.

There is no immediate word on what the school will do to replace Cribby. Mount Si’s school offices are closed for another couple of weeks, and it may take that long for the school to begin assessing what it will do with that position going forward. We’ll reach out to Mount Si athletic director Greg Hart and if we hear something from him on this, we’ll let you know. And we have also reached out to Cribby to see what this means for the scheduled tryouts tomorrow for the U13 Wildcat select baseball team he was expected to coach next summer.
