Now to gymnastics. Mount Si will have a delegation of five girls competing in individual event finals at the state 4A meet in Bellevue in a couple of weeks.
The Wildcats took sixth as a team in the WesKing 4A District meet this past Saturday at Newport High School in Bellevue, scoring 166.3. The top two teams – Woodinville and North Creek, both of whom’s scores were over 170 – made it to state.
Kaitlyn Holt made it in all four events but due to finishing ninth in the all-around, won’t actually be competing for that title at state. She scored 35.075 but only the top three all-around entrants made it to state. The sophomore took eighth (8.75) in the bars, 8.9 (19th) in the beam, 9.175 (12th) on the floor and 8.25 (tie for 11th) on the vault.
On bars, in addition to Holt, Tylor Zwiefelhofer punched a ticket to state with an 11th-place 8.55. Beam has four others in addition to Holt – Sydney Haberman (9.2, tie for third), Claire Stone (9.1, tie for eighth), Lauren Bennetts (8.95, 17th) and Zwiefelhofer (8.925, 18th). Haberman tied Holt for 11th on vault with her own 8.25, and Holt was the lone Mount Si floor qualifier.

Sammamish High School will host the state meet and that comes up the weekend of February 20-22.

Valleyite Schirmer with new pro team this season: Major League Rugby opened its third season of competition this past weekend, once again with the Seattle Seawolves defending the title as they did last season following their inaugural season championship in 2018. However, the Seawolves have a little different look this year, as their Valley rep is suiting up elsewhere this season.
North Bend’s Aladdin Schirmer, a Mount Si High School grad who was part of both Seawolve championship teams these past two seasons, signed in the offseason as a free agent with Seattle’s league rival Colorado Raptors. The Denver-based entry has been a top rival in the Western Conference with the Seawolves, and once again are expected to be that this season in the newly-expanded 12-team league, which now includes teams in Boston, New York, Austin, TX, and Toronto.

Schirmer will make his return to Seattle with the Raptors for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff March 29 at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, a game that will be locally televised on ROOT Sports. Other Colorado games will be televised nationally this season, with those details to be announced closer to each individual game date.
